Summer Camp Positions

Summer Camp Director & Assistant Director

Department: Town of Franklin – Recreation Department
Program: Municipal Recreation Day Camp
Dates: June 29 – August 21
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Position Summary

The Town of Franklin Recreation Department is seeking a qualified and motivated Summer Camp Director to oversee the daily operations of its municipal recreation day camp program at King Street Memorial Park. The Camp Director is responsible for planning, supervising, and administering a safe, inclusive, and engaging camp experience for participants. This position provides on-site leadership for camp staff and serves as the primary liaison between the Recreation Department, families, and camp personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and supervise all aspects of daily camp operations
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate camp counselors and support staff
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate recreational, educational, and enrichment activities in accordance with Recreation Department goals
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all campers and staff at all times
  • Enforce Town of Franklin policies, procedures, and safety regulations
  • Maintain accurate records including attendance, incident/accident reports, and staff documentation
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with parents/guardians regarding camper progress, concerns, and program information
  • Coordinate use of municipal facilities, equipment, and supplies
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, behavioral issues, and unforeseen situations
  • Serve as the on-site representative of the Recreation Department during camp hours

Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 18 (or as required by Massachusetts regulations)
  • Prior experience working in a recreation, camp, or youth development program required
  • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Knowledge of recreational programming and child development
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Recreation Department staff and municipal personnel
  • CPR/First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain prior to program start)
  • CORI/SORI background check required

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to actively participate in indoor and outdoor recreational activities
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds

Compensation

Hourly wage or stipend commensurate with experience and qualifications. Position is seasonal and non-benefited.

The Town of Franklin Recreation Department is always looking for good volunteers to assist in organizing and supervising youth programs. Either as a coach, official, gym monitors, or program coordinators.

The Recreation Department is certified by the Criminal History Systems Board (CHSB) to access Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI). This authorization is conferred pursuant to M.G.L c. 6 172H, which mandates organizations primarily engaged in providing activities or programs to children 18 years of age or less, that accept volunteers to obtain all CORI's on volunteers prior to volunteer service.

Pursuant to M.G.L c. 6 172H, organizations primarily engaged in providing activities or programs to children 18 years of age or less, that accept volunteers are entitled to all existing CORI. This includes pending case, conviction, and non-conviction criminal case data. Information obtained under this section shall not be disseminated for any purpose other than to further the protection of children
